// hands-on lab
First repository
~12 min
Init, stage, commit and read history in the practice shell.
The in-page shell has a working git. Drill the core loop:
1. `git status` — observe the "not a git repository" error (you'll see it often in life) 2. `git init` — create the repo 3. `touch runbook.md` then `git add runbook.md` 4. `git status` — read it: the file is STAGED ("to be committed") 5. `git commit -m "add runbook skeleton"` 6. `git log` — your snapshot exists, with hash and message 7. Bonus: `git add .` stages everything; try another commit.
